This AGRI NEWS RUSH -Some of the news stories of this week-, SUNDAY EDITIONALWAYS ON TIME  - AGRI NEWS RUSH is now one of the most read Articles on a Sunday

News Comments  - Internationally shared - Nothing Sensational.  News platform of the real commercial farmers of South Africa .

Just that " ONE" step ahead-  Always on time- 7 days of the week - 365 days of the year- This commitment.  Do not fall in - always stand out.

U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to impose a 30% tariff on South African imports, effective August 1, 2025, will significantly impact South African farmers, including white farmers he previously claimed to support. The tariffs target key agricultural exports like citrus, wine, sugar cane, beef, and soybeans, previously benefiting from duty-free access under AGOA. South Africa, the world’s second-largest citrus exporter, earns about $100 million annually from the U.S. market. Farmers like Krisjan Mouton in Citrusdal express confusion and frustration, noting the tariffs contradict Trump’s earlier support.

The South African government’s tendency to engage in prolonged discussions without follow-through further frustrates farmers. Events hosted by the Department of Trade, Industry, and Competition or the Department of Agriculture often feature promises of export diversification or biosecurity improvements, yet progress lags. For example, despite announcements in May 2025 to diversify export markets to China and the Middle East, minimal advancements have been made, leaving agriculture vulnerable to US tariffs. SA Canegrowers highlighted that 100,000 tons of subsidized sugar imports in 2024/25 displaced local production, costing R6,000 per ton, yet government action on protective tariffs remains slow.

Summary of the Weeks Headline news- ( Our mediums is overloaded with Farming and Agriculture news and we have great interest from International medium.)

South Africa’s ostrich industry, led by Cape Karoo International (CKI), risks losing R200 million in annual U.S. exports due to a potential 30% tariff increase starting August 1, 2025, which could rise further with an additional 10% retaliatory tariff linked to South Africa’s Brics membership.

While South Africa’s trade environment waits to hear from government about negotiations with the US to avoid a 30% increase in tariffs, the Bureau for Economic Research (BER) has struck a balance between good and bad news.

Industry leaders, including Gary Arnold (South African Poultry Association) and Dr. Tobias Doyer (Grain SA), welcomed Agriculture Minister John Steenhuisen’s 2025/26 Budget Vote speech for its practical and focused agricultural policy framework, emphasizing biosecurity as a national priority.

The Israeli-Iranian conflict - particularly if it escalates or spreads into broader regional tensions in the Red Sea or Arab/Persian Gulf - could significantly impact global fertiliser trade. Below is a breakdown of the fertilisers most at risk and the mechanisms behind potential disruptions.
