Wintersday with rain over Eastern Parts over of South Africa-
Africa has about 60% of the world’s uncultivated arable land, yet the continent spends billions of dollars every year importing food that can be produced locally. From rice and wheat to vegetable oils and processed foods, many African countries continue to rely on external markets while millions of young people remain unemployed and millions of farmers struggle to earn a decent income.
Theo de Jager, executive director of the Southern African Agri Initiative (Saai), a farmer, former president of the Southern African Confederation of Agricultural Unions, and current president of the World Farmers’ Organisation, has highlighted ongoing erosion of property rights in South Africa.
