  • South Africa’s Braai Index for September 2026 recorded year-on-year inflation of 5.2%, the highest level in more than a year and up from 3.1% in August. This means the typical braai basket now costs over 5% more than in September 2025. While meat prices (especially beef and wors) were generally lower than a year earlier, chicken rose 4.9%.
